NATURE’S WRATH
Artist: James Seaman
Seaman, artist and sculptor, was commissioned to produce a sculpture for the park with the theme of patriotism. The sculpture features an eagle resting on two draped American flags. The flags are composed of carbon steel for the red stripes (they will rust when exposed to the elements) and stainless steel for the white stripes and stars. The eagle body and wings are made of carbon steel, and the head and the tail will be formed out of stainless steel. Nature’s Wrath is 12 feet tall with a wing span of 23 feet.
When asked about his piece Seaman said “This sculpture represents a lifetime of determination, dedication, patience and good old fashion hard work. With the support of family and friends it’s possible to achieve anything you put your mind to. As we were unloading this sculpture here at Griffiss I watched a fighter jet plane flying above the eagle. It made me think how fortunate we are to live in such a powerful and wonderful country were we are all free to live to our fullest potential!” He added that he is “honored to be asked to create this sculpture for this location.”
