Mohawk Valley EDGE among 7th annual delegation to SEMICON Europa 2011

Rome, N.Y. – Marcy Nanocenter at SUNYIT is part of “NY Loves Nanotech” in Dresden, Germany this week to participate at SEMICON Europa, Europe’s premiere conference for semiconductor equipment, materials and services. Celebrating 35 years, SEMICON Europa is still recognized as one of the best venues to reach the global semiconductor, photovoltaic and flat panel display industries.

This year’s participation at SEMICON Europa takes on added importance with Governor Andrew Cuomo’s recent announcement of the $4.8 billion Global 450mm Consortium (including Intel, IBM, GlobalFoundries, Samsung and TSMC) at the University at Albany’s College of Nanoscale Science & Engineering and across Upstate NY.

Mohawk Valley EDGE, utilizing grant funding from National Grid, is participating along with several other New York organizations and companies in Semicon Europa.

“Our visibility in New York has increased fundamentally over the 10 years we have been participating in this trade show” says Mark Reynolds senior VP at MV EDGE. “We started back then to create awareness and now we have substantive meetings with Semi companies to discuss their strategic planning vis-a-vis New York and the Mohawk Valley.”

The Global 450 Consortia announcement which is committed to creating another 400 jobs at SUNYIT has really got the industry buzzing in Europe. Tom Triscari, Professor of Practice at Rensselaer Lally School of Management and Technology here representing Rensselaer Economic Development Corp has been “inspired by the discussion on the business opportunities presented by emerging technologies”. Dr. Triscari who has also served as a senior researcher at the Air Force Research Laboratory in Rome NY went on to say “AFRL pioneers next generation Air Force systems and we need to emulate that approach that approach to become technology smart and business savvy”.

The Semiconductor Equipment and Materials Institute (SEMI), which annually organizes SEMICON Europa, has been holding similar expositions for more than three decades. Each year, SEMICON Europa attracts thousands of attendees from 60 countries and features about 350 different companies.
