"Heavy Metal Air Show" in Rome

ROME, N.Y. (WKTV) - Griffiss International Airport in Rome played host to some of the Air Force's largest cargo planes, the C-17.

Airport Commissioner Vernon Gray said the military asked two weeks ago for permission to use Griffiss airspace for training purposes. Four C-17's practiced taking off, doing aerial maneuvers and landing.
The four-hour practice run didn't benefit Oneida County financially, but Gray says there are pluses.
"It adds to our traffic count which justifies having a control tower."
Aside from that, it helps build on efforts to bring more military clients to the airport.
